1887

The community of Sacred Heart began in the 1870's, with visiting priests celebrating Mass in the home of D. Hans. The first church was built in 1886 and was originally called St. Martin's. In 1892, the parish was assigned its first resident priest. By the 1920s, the church was called Sacred Heart and was relocated into what is now the parking lot directly across from where the sidewalk in front of the school meets the parking lot

1987

The Sacred Heart School was founded in 1930 by Rev. Zientek and Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament, Sacred Heart Catholic School has been providing a faithful, Catholic education for over 90 years in La Grange.  Our current building was built in 1987. Interior renovations are being done the summer of 2023 and students in PreK 3 - Grade 6 will all be in the same building.

Construction on the current building began in 1972. The initial design of the building included a narthex, which was not constructed at the time. In 2011, on the 125th anniversary of the parish, a plan was begun to add the expansion. A narthex envision by our beloved Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz and completed during the term of Rev. Matthew Kinney, was dedicated on June 9, 2019.
